Hands Across America

Yep, I did this. It seemed like the thing to do at the time.
We met at the high school and were bussed  around to where they needed people.
Weird thing.

Hands Across America: May 25, 1986.
I wasn’t particularly community-minded in high school, but I do remember participating in things like this. I also took part in a community disaster response drill where a group of us at the high school were instructed to act as injured victims. The emergency response team arrived and handled the situation as if they’d been called to a real mass-casualty event at a school. We were even transported by ambulance to the hospital, where they assessed our “injuries.” Good practice for the real deal!
