When I was a kid in early elementary school, I started drawing weird creatures on sheets of lined paper. I kept them in a pile that I would sometimes look through for entertainment.
Eventually, I repurposed a three-ring binder that I found, to give the collection a proper home. It had a yellow vinyl cover and I think it was originally to showcase information about a product of some kind because it had a company logo and name printed on the front. I scrawled over all of that in big letters: THE BOOK OF UGLIES and proceeded to collect my weird drawings in there.
The Book of Uglies is long gone, and was forgotten until Brother Todd reminded me of it. I asked A.I. to recreate a depiction. The actual drawings aren't authentic, but it captures the gist of the project.
